In Uman, Hasidim are gathering to celebrate the birthday of their spiritual mentor Rabbi Nachman. As of March 28, 2025, 1,200 pilgrims have already arrived in the city, reports Suspilne.
As reported by Anastasia Baryshnikova, PR director of the international charitable foundation named after Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, Hasidim consider Rabbi Nachman's birthday to be the "New Year for the elite."
"Rabbi Nachman's birthday, which falls at the end of March, is a kind of New Year for privileged people, for those who have a high financial and social status. They say: just as nature has its own New Year, so too for those who have influence in this world, there is their own beginning. Rabbi Nachman's birthday is the New Year for the elite, for people who make decisions, manage processes, have power and great opportunities," Anastasia said.
According to her, Hasidim believe that on Rabbi Nachman's birthday, it is determined what you will work as, what will change in your life, and what path is destined for you this year.
"In the 19th century, local Christians believed that on the first of Nisan, a fire appears from the ground near the grave. There are testimonies that local old-timers saw strange lights or glow near Rabbi Nachman's grave specifically in March. This could have been a legend – but for Hasidim, it became proof that the place was chosen for a reason," Baryshnikova added.
Earlier, SPZH reported that a personal chair was made for Zelensky in the synagogue of Kyiv.
