Politexpert: we are in for a large-scale provocation against UOC

Representatives of the political environment of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko push him into a serious conflict with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, says on his Facebook page a well-known journalist and political commentator Viacheslav Pikhovshek.

Pikhovshek states that Poroshenko is pushed for official recognition of the fact that the UOC allegedly presents a threat for national security of Ukraine, and that the main task of the state is to create "one local church."

"A large-scale provocation with personal engagement of Poroshenko is under preparation. I conclude that Poroshenko has an erroneous belief that "now it is time to do away with it", and the current attack against the Church is NOT associated with Pan-Orthodox Cathedral on Crete," said the political expert.

An attempt to confiscation the Holy Dormition Pochaev Lavra from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by the Ternopil regional council clearly illustrates that. "First come documents, and then – actions based on these documents. If the documents appear, many people will say: nothing depends on you, Poroshenko. You have already done your job – signed everything. Now, it is time for other people to act," explains Pikhovshek.

"The Ukrainian Orthodox Church acts in the current situation in a sensible and dignified way. It retains all its believers. It is definitely a merit. Isn’t it another merit of the Church that more blood has not been shed in Ukraine yet? The Ukrainian state does not need to create "one local church." For it is already there. This is the Ukrainian Orthodox Church headed by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy," concludes the political analyst.
