Armenia: priests stood between demonstrators and police

Yerevan, July 21, priests stood between demonstrators and the police, trying to prevent clashes. Some protestors started arguing with them, an Interfax correspondent reports.

On Thursday night stones were thrown from the crowd of demonstrators to the police, guarding the territory of the captured by the armed group building of the patrol regiment in Yerevan.

Some demonstrators stood up in order to protect the police cordon, trying to secure law-enforcement officers and prevent clashes.

As many as 51 people, including 28 policemen, were wounded in clashes in Yerevan on Wednesday evening. The protesters hurled stones at the police after their question about food supply to the armed group was left unanswered.
