Cyprus Church: meeting Turkish demand would mean the beginning of the end of Hellenism in Cyprus
The Holy Synod hopes find a viable solution which will "allow the survival of Hellenism in the land of the fathers and the smooth co-existence, in conditions of equality before the law, of Greek and Turkish Cypriots."
The Holy Bishops expressed a deep concern about a possibility of settling Turkish position on the abrogation of Cyprus: eliminating the Republic of Cyprus and replaced with a new state would be "fatal to our people" and make Greek Cypriots "hostages in Turkish hands, which would mean the beginning of the end of Hellenism in Cyprus."
The Holy Synod urged the President to ensure clear and unequivocal continuity of the state, which would be in the interests of all Cypriots, and to defend rights, refugee or not, as to the property, and other human rights in the northern occupied part of the island.
