ROC will release a video dictionary of Orthodox terminology for the deaf
The experience of communities of the deaf serves as a basis for the dictionary of Orthodox terminology. It will include 165 words. Each will be accompanied by interpretation and the most frequently used gesture options. A word search could be done by both alphabet and topic: commonly used words and expressions, religious holidays, church and church items, church hierarchy, Sacraments and rituals, sin.
To distinguish similar words – for example, the word "Easter" (feast) and "Easter cake" (curd pudding) – examples of their usage will be given.
The dictionary is to be released in December with 1000 copies. Also, it will be available in electronic form on the website of the Coordination Center for work with the deaf, the hard-of-hearing and the deafblind under the Synodal Department.
The video dictionary is designed for priests, who minister to the deaf, as well as for the Orthodox interpreters of the sign language, deaf parishioners who would like to expand their vocabulary and communicate more easily with people with impaired hearing and speech.
Earlier in April, the teacher of the Kiev Theological Academy and Seminary Anna Bloschinskaya released the first in Ukraine video tutorial "Fundamentals of the sign language for the clergy."
