Church of Russia and Vatican ready to act as mediators in the Ukrainian conflict

It was declared in the Russian and Catholic Churches they have to appear as peaceful mediators between the feuding parties of the armed conflict in Ukraine. It is reported by Interfax

The issue was brought up on Friday at the meeting of the head of Synod’s Department for External Church Relations Metropolitan of Volokolam Hilarion with new Apostolic Nuncio to the Russian Federation Archbishop Celestino Migliore, as reported in the DECR Communications Service.

"The interlocutors agreed that both Churches must appear as peaceful mediators between the opposing parties rather than stick to either of the parties to the conflict,” the message says.

In the course of the meeting Metropolitan Hilarion highly appreciated a “weighed position” of Pope Francis and Vatican regarding the situation in Ukraine.
