In memory of Athos Khilandar founder: night vigil and pilgrims from Orthodox countries (PHOTO, VIDEO)

Panigir in honor of the monastery’s founder – Saint Sabbas – was celebrated by brethren of Serbian Athonite monastery Khilandar. A festive divine service was attended by numerous pilgrims from Orthodox countries, reports Носталгија

At the festive worship there were plenty of pilgrims from Serbia, Greece and other Orthodox countries, as well as brethren of monasteries and sketes of the Holy Mount Athos.

After the Divine Liturgy a general brethren festive meal was organized, in which pilgrims and guests participated as well.

Khilandar is located on the northern-eastern side of Athos Peninsular and ranks 4th in the Holy Mount hierarchy.

The monastery belongs to the Serbian Orthodox Church. The monastery was founded in 1198 by Saint Sabbas, first Archbishop of Serbia. There is a Cathedral and 13 churches and chapels, 15 cells and one metochion in Khilandar. The monastery has a library with a rich collection of rare manuscripts.
