St. Isaac Cathedral in Saint Petersburg can gain a status of patriarchal representation

People close to Patriarch Kirill believe it will be optimal to give the St. Isaac Cathedral a status of a patriarchal representation church if the cathedral is transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church, reports Interfax.

"If we speak about possible transferring of the St. Isaac Cathedral, basing on the experience we have, such form of administering the church that has special importance seems to be optimal as it allows the patriarch to take quick decisions connected with work of the church," said the patriarch's press secretary priest Alexander Volkov.

According to him, the same scheme functions in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior for many years as well as in numerous stauropegic monasteries, which are guided directly by the primate.

"This scheme has confirmed its efficiency and certainly can be practiced in administering the St. Isaac Cathedral, considering its special, national importance," the priest said.
