The Romanian Parliament votes for the family as a union of man and woman

The Romanian Parliament has voted 232 out of 270 in favour of amending the national constitution to explicitly define marriage as a union of one man and one woman, reports Coalitia pentru Familie (The Coalition for Family).

The proposed amendment to Article 48, paragraph 1 of the Romanian Constitution reads, “The family is founded on the freely consented marriage between a man and a woman, their full equality and the right and duty of parents to ensure the upbringing, education and instruction of children.”

Note that this is a citizen’s initiative, with 3.1 million signatures collected by The Coalition for Family. The initiative has found broad support from all Christian denominations.
