Ukraine can be pushed to religious war by just two pushes of the button, – Mass Media
"Document number 4128 is tagged by experts as the "bill on church raiding." The term "self-identification of a religious community" may appear in the Ukrainian legal field owing to this bill. Translated from the juridical language to layman’s this means: if the majority of parishioners like the UOC-MP, the church remains in their ownership, if not, it is alienated.
However, experience shows that the statute can be rewritten with the help of radicals with rods and Molotov cocktails.
The legitimate UOC MP does not suit the Ukrainian authorities for many reasons. It is known that secular Kiev has long cherished the hope of establishing "an independent Church". As always, Moscow hinders this: the Russian Orthodox Church is the "Mother Church", according to the church canons and only this Church has the right to grant such a coveted autocephaly.
Behind all this hysteria around "church independence," an important detail is stubbornly ignored: the Ukrainian Church is an independent one de-facto. "It chooses its own Primate on its own, makes key decisions on its own, communicates with the outside world on its own behalf, and the number of parishes – which is about 12,000 – speaks about its financial independence from anyone whatsoever.
But Ukrainian politicians do not care. They intend to cross out what has been formed for centuries with one push of a button, " experts write.
