MP Mosiychuk sees “Putin’s hand” in the defeat of Charles XII and Mazepa near Poltava
The reason for the loss of Swedes with Mazepa Cossacks near Poltava is a split in society due to the skillful actions of the Russian propaganda, the deputy explained.
"This tragedy became possible because of the treachery of a part of the Cossacks and a split on social grounds in the then Ukrainian society, skillfully sown by Russian propaganda," writes the Member of Parliament of Ukraine on his Facebook page.
"Years have passed," Mosiychuk continues, "but our millennial holy war with Muscovy continues. The enemy's weapons do not change either – to seek out traitors among Ukrainians and sow discord, so that Ukrainians defeat themselves with their own hands."
Ivan Mazepa twice participated with Peter I in campaigns to Azov. In 1700 Hetman of the Left-bank Ukraine Ivan Mazepa became the second holder of the Order of St. Andrew received from the hands of Peter the First– the first Order established by the young tsar.
After the Battle of Poltava in 1709 by order of Peter I there was made a single copy of the "Order of Judas" weighing 4 modern kilograms specifically for the awarding of Hetman Mazepa, who had defected to the Swedes in 1708 in the Northern War. On the obverse of the "Order of Judas" Judas Iscariot is depicted, hanged on an aspen, and at the bottom of the tree there is a sack with 30 pieces of silver and the inscription: "Thrice-cursed is perishing son Judah as he hangs himself for covetousness.”
