KP and Uniates do not want Nikopol to be patronized by Christian saint

"Hieromonk" Mercury of the Kyiv Patriarchate on his Facebook page published an open appeal of the Council of Churches of the city of Nikopol, in which the representative of the Kyiv Patriarchate, a Roman Catholic priest, a priest of the UGCC, a rabbi and a Protestant, speaks out against St. Nikita of Gotha to be the patron of the city.

"On October 13, 2017, to ensure publicity and take into account the opinions and interests of the local community, public hearings will be held to discuss the draft of the Statute of the territorial community of the city of Nikopol in a new edition," writes hieromonk Mercury.

At the same time, the "hieromonk" informs that the Great Martyr Nikita "was canonized by the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate" and "according to the law, he cannot be the patron of the city where representatives of different faiths reside."

The Great Martyr Nikita of Gotha was canonized and honored even before the separation of the Orthodox and Catholic Churches.
