Poroshenko matches Catholic Christmas with the Orthodox

President Petro Poroshenko endorsed the celebration of the Catholic Christmas ona par with the Orthodox by having signed the law on the introduction of a day-off on December 25. It is reported on the official page of bill #5496 on the website of the Verkhovna Rada.

In particular, in the section "Dates and State of Passage" it is indicated that on November 29 the document was returned with the signature of the President. In accordance with the law, it comes into force on the day after its publication in the parliamentary newspaper Golos Ukrainy.

President of the Center for Innovation Consulting KDA, Dmitry Korneychuk, said that the decision on having a day-off at Catholic Christmas, adopted on November 16 by the Rada, has to do with the Baptist lobby.

The number of Catholics of the Latin rite, who celebrate Christmas on December 25, is about 800 thousand in Ukraine. Greek Catholics, like the Orthodox, celebrate Christmas on January 7.
