Filaret asks for autocephaly but not for the UOC KP

A letter was sent to the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia Metropolitan of Eastern America and New York Hilarion, in which the head of the UOC-KP Philaret asks for authocephaly from the ROC, yet not for the Kyiv Patriarchate but for the UOC.

"I am convinced that the recognition by the Russian Orthodox Church of the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will put an end to the current tragic division of Orthodoxy, which we all sincerely strive for," Filaret wrote.

This text differs noticeably from the version sent to Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, although the dates of the documents coincide.

Earlier, head of the Kyiv Patriarchate Filaret sent a letter to Patriarch Kirill and the bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church with a proposal to begin negotiations on overcoming the split in the Orthodoxy of Ukraine.
