"Metropolitan" Michael, a “bishop” of the Kiev Patriarchate, withdrew his candidacy before the final vote, reports the BBC-Ukraine, citing its sources.
According to the edition, it helped "Metropolitan" Epiphany win over another nominee, Metropolitan Simeon (Shostatsky), by 20 votes.
Judging by the published photos from the “Unification Council,” the vote was open and took place in the presence of Petro Poroshenko.
As reported earlier, "Metropolitan" Epiphany of the Kiev Patriarchate was elected the head of the new church structure in Ukraine.
The “Council” was attended by Metropolitan Simeon of Vinnitsa and Bar, accompanied by the dean of Vinnitsa District Deanery, Archimandrite Dorothy (Markevich), as well as Metropolitan Alexander (Drabinko) of Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky and Vishnevoye.
