Archbishop Nathaniel (Popp) spiritually supports the UOC Primate
The UOC priest spoke at a conference in Arizona about the pressure on the canonical Church in Ukraine
On February 13, 2019, during the annual conference of the priests of the Romanian Archdiocese of the American Orthodox Church, which was held in Phoenix (Arizona) from February 12 to 14, Protopriest Nikolai Popescu, cleric of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, spoke about the pressure that the canonical Church in Ukraine is currently going through. It is reported by the Information and Education Department of the UOC.
The Protopriest informed the clergy of the Romanian diocese of the Orthodox Church in America about the unlawful attacks on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, carried out with the participation of radical groups, about the inaction of the police during the seizure of churches, about the beating of priests and believers of the UOC.
On behalf of all the priests of the Romanian diocese, Archbishop Nathaniel expressed spiritual support to His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kiev and All Ukraine and thanked Father Nikolai for his narration of the true situation in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
As reported by the UOJ, the abbot of the Tithe Monastery, Bishop Gedeon of Makarov, was deported to the United States after his meeting with congressmen of the US government. At the meeting, Bishop Gedeon highlighted the situation regarding the violation of the international rights of believers and also spoke about the radical attacks on the temples of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the beating of believers, and the oppression of clergy from radical organizations.
