Parubiy going to challenge court’s decision to repeal anti-church law
Andrey Parubiy
The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andrey Parubiy announced his intention to challenge the decision of the Kiev District Administrative Court in the appellate court, reports UNN.
“Recently, it has been reported that the court decided to repeal the Ukrainian law on the alignment of the names of Ukrainian Churches. I want to emphasize that the decision of the District Court is not final, it will be appealed by me according to the law in the appellate instance, and if necessary, in the cassation court. Therefore, the law is valid, and the parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate must be honestly called the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine and not hide under the name of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. There is one Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Ukraine,” he said.
According to Parubiy, the transfer of UOC parishes to the newly created OCU is underway and the ROC’s “revenge” in Ukraine will not pass.
Earlier, the UOC appealed to the court with a request to recognize the decision of the Ministry of Culture, which obliges it to indicate its affiliation to the Russian Orthodox Church in its name, as unlawful. On April 5, 2019, the Kiev District Administrative Court decided to declare illegal the actions of the head of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andrey Parubiy in connection with the adoption of the draft law on the forced name change of the canonical Church.
