UOC Primate: GPW warriors made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of love
His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine
The warriors, who fought against fascism during the Great Patriotic War, put their lives on the altar of divine love, the Information and Education Department quoted the Primate of the UOC Metropolitan Onuphry.
“Today we pray for the repose of those leaders, those warriors who put their lives on the altar of divine love, who gave their lives so that we live with you today. May the Lord rest their souls in habitations of the righteous!” declared His Beatitude Onuphry to the flock.
He congratulated Ukrainians on Holy Easter – the Great Victory, "which the Son of God accomplished in order to free people from evil" – and on Victory Day.
“I congratulate you on the Victory Day, which we celebrate today – the Victory Day, which was accomplished by our people during the Great Patriotic War, Second World War. And not only our people. All the nations that were part of the Soviet Union <...> together conquered the great evil called “fascism”, this extreme form of public pride,” said the Primate of the UOC.
His Beatitude wished to the veterans of the Great Patriotic War that the Lord bless them and give them health, all that is necessary for earthly life and salvation in eternal life.
On May 9, 2019, on the Victory Day over the Nazi invaders, at the stele at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the territory of the Park of Eternal Glory in Kiev, the Primate of the UOC performed a public service for those who died during the Great Patriotic War. He was co-served by the UOC Chancellor, Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanich) of Borispol and Brovary, vicar of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, Metropolitan Pavel (Lebed) of Vyshgorod and Chernobyl, and the clergy of the Kiev eparchy.
