On August 26, 2019, the Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church begins its work. According to the Greek edition of Romfea, the Synod is going to discuss the issue of recognition of the OCU.
In view of the above, “speakers were invited to participate in the meetings of the Synod, who will present their opinion on the recognition of the new Ukrainian Autocephalous Church by the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece."
According to Romfea, the Greek Orthodox Church may become the first Orthodox Church to recognize the OCU. In this case, according to the resource, the reaction and possible counterstand to such a decision on the part of other Local Churches is of particular interest.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that, according to the Deputy Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the UOC, Archpriest Nikolai Danilevich, Archbishop Ieronymus II is in no hurry to recognize the new church structure, because it invites internal problems for his Church. Father Nikolai also said that the Orthodox Church of Greece might speak on the subject of OCU at its Bishops' Council in October 2019.
