On October 2, 2019, at a meeting of the Standing Commission of the Kiev City Council on Culture, Tourism and Information Policy, the deputies supported the draft decision on renaming Cosmonaut Komarov Avenue after the former head of the UGCC Lubomir Huzar, reports the press service of Kievrada.
In particular, the report said that "the contribution of the archbishop to the development of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church is difficult to overestimate". As an example of such a contribution, the press service of Kiev City Council points to the transfer by Huzar of his residence from Lvov to the capital, which, according to politicians, "thereby emphasizes the national rather than local significance of the UGCC".
In addition, the secretary of the City Council Vladimir Prokopov, who initiated the renaming, noted that “Beatitude Lubomir Huzar has remained moral authority for a whole generation of Ukrainians for several decades,” while “the figure of the cosmonaut Komarov is not connected with Ukraine and is only a legacy of the Soviet past".
It is reported that the leadership and clergy of the UGCC support the initiative to rename Cosmonaut Komarov Avenue after Lubomir Huzar. The specified draft decision should be considered at a plenary session of the City Council.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that Greek Catholics initiated a discussion on renaming Cosmonaut Komarov Avenue in the Solomensky District after Lubomir Huzar Avenue.
