On December 10, 2019, the former Greek Minister of Defense Panos Kammenos sharply criticized the decision of the Primate of the Hellenic Orthodox Church, Archbishop Ieronymos, and the Holy Synod to recognize the OCU, reports the Greek site “Romfea”.
In particular, speaking at the Scientific Conference of the Institute of Geopolitical Studies "The geopolitical developments in the vital area of the Eastern Mediterranean and their interactions with the international environment" Panos Kammenos said that recognizing the OCU “the Archbishop (Ieronymos – Ed.) committed a crime”.
He also emphasized that “the hierarchs of the Holy Synod committed it when at the last Holy Synod they recognized the illegal Ukrainian Church first before the Patriarchates – of Jerusalem and Alexandria”.
The politician is sure that "the decision to do the same thing as the Phanar and succumb to the pressure of some American circles has set Russia against us."
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that according to Panos Kammenos, the recognition of the OCU would entail tragic consequences for the nation.
