On January 24, 2020, the head of the UGCC Sviatoslav Shevchuk met with the leader of the “Holos” party, deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Viacheslav Vakarchuk and explained to him how to reform state institutions, reports the information resource of the UGCC.

Shevchuk told the MP what threats for the country the wrong approach to reform in such a serious sphere could pose.

“Of course, state institutions need to be reformed, but this must be done without destroying them. By consolidating state mechanisms, we are strengthening our country, and by shaking them, we pose a threat to its existence,” the head of the UGCC said.

He also noted that for Ukraine, it is not humanistic but Christian values reflected in the social doctrine of the UGCC that are important.

As reported earlier,  during an informal meeting, the UOC cleric Georgy Kovalenko, who was banned from priesthood, discussed with Vakarchuk “the role of the Church in the formation of the Ukrainian political nation and the preservation of its unity, as well as further cooperation”, and also expressed support for the “Holos” party.
