On January 27, 2020, Metropolitan Amphilochios (Radović) of Montenegro and the Littoral of the Serbian Orthodox Church called on the country's authorities not to repeat the offences against the Church that were committed in Ukraine, reports Svetigora.
In his sermon on the feast of St. Sava of Serbia at Savina Glavica nunnery in Nizhny Grbala, Metropolitan Amphilochios recalled that the Church of Christ is invincible and called on the authorities not to repeat the crimes similar to the ones committed in Ukraine.
In addition, he urged the country's politicians to "return to the path leading to eternal life, which was shown to us by our guide Saint Sava."
Metropolitan Amphilochios also said that "the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, like our Church, had suffered for centuries but managed to preserve the faith and faithfulness to our Lord Jesus Christ."
He emphasized that “the Church is still suffering today,” because “the offsprings of those post-war atheists are trying to threaten the Church, they want to take away the shrines of God, claiming them to belong to the government, which rules the country even if it has departed from the Honest Cross and Saints."
According to the Metropolitan, the predecessors of the modern persecutors of the Church "would kill our metropolitans and priests in the war and post-war period."
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that, in the opinion of Metropolitan Amphilochios (Radović), the new law “On Freedom of Religion and Belief and the Legal Status of Religious Communities”, approved by the Montenegrin authorities, is a return to the laws of Emperor Diocletian.
