Yelena Bohdan, an assistant professor of sociology at the National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”, is the best of the worst candidates for the post of head of the State Service for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience, said Andrei Zolotarev, head of the “Third Sector” analytical center, a political analyst.

The UOJ turned to Zolotarev with a request to comment on the decision of the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports of Ukraine Vladimir Borodiansky. According to the political expert, hope remains that the position of Bohdan will differ from the views of Yurash.

“The candidacy of Mr. Yurash, in my opinion, needs no comment. Actually, this is a person who took the position of an open promoter of the OCU, infringing on the interests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church,” the expert noted. “At least, there is still hope that the lessons of the 2019 elections will somehow affect the disposition of Ms. Bohdan, and she will pursue a more adequate policy than Yurash did.”

On February 11, 2020, it became known that Borodiansky introduced to the Cabinet of Ministers Yelena Bohdan as a candidate for the post of head of the civil service for religion, who in the summer of 2018 said that the authorities should support the process of creating a “local autocephalous Orthodox Church”.
