Head of ROC: Our challenge is to create canonical unity

On February 26, 2020, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, in his address to the participants in the Amman Synaxis, stated that “the Primates and representatives of the Local Orthodox Churches are faced with the task of creating the canonical order and unity of the Church, for which we will be held accountable to God and our flock."

According to Patriarch Kirill, "now this unity and legality in our Church is challenged."

He is convinced that “the Church’s effective weapon against its enslavement to the world and secular dissolution is our fraternal love and unity, our common prayer and common free decision-making by the conciliar mind of the Church.”

The Head of the Russian Orthodox Church believes that "here and now (in Amman – Ed.) we will not solve all our problems, but at least we must begin an open, objective and unbiased discussion of the issues."

In his opinion, "it is very important that this discussion begins precisely here – in the capital of Jordan, on an independent and neutral platform."

“I hope that during this meeting, and I would like to hope for many such meetings, the Lord will indicate to us what is useful and necessary for the fullness of the Orthodox Church, which is the ‘pillar and affirmation of the Truth’ and will remain so even until the end of the century,” said the Primate of the Russian Church.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that, in the opinion of Bishop of the UOC Victor (Kotsaba), the meeting in Amman should give a correct and canonically weighed response to the actions of the Patriarchate of Constantinople.

Recall that the UOJ is broadcasting the Primates’ Council in Amman online.
