On November 23, 2022, at a meeting of the Holy Synod of the UOC, a decision was made to resume chrism boiling in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the Information and Education Department reports.
The Synod formed an ad-hoc commission, which was entrusted with restoring the rite of preparation of Holy Myrrh in Kyiv. The commission is chaired by the vicar of the Odessa diocese, Archbishop Viktor of Artsyz.
The Council of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which took place on May 27, 2022 in Kyiv, had deliberations on the resumption of this rite. With this in mind, the Holy Synod decided to resume the preparation of Holy Myrrh in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
The rite of chrism boling existed in the Kyiv Metropolis since the middle of the 15th century. The center of its production was the Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. Because of the revolution of 1917, chrism was no longer prepared in Ukraine.
As the UOJ wrote, the Synod established new holidays and the Cossack parental Saturday.
