The governments of Greece and Russia are developing a possible procedure for receiving the Holy Fire from the Church of the Resurrection of Christ on Holy Saturday, reports the Greek edition “Romfea”.
According to the media outlet, the Greek government intends, like every year, to deliver the Holy Fire to the country on a government plane, and will "distribute it, as always, to every corner of Greece".
However, in connection with the situation with the coronavirus, there are several problems, among which are significant restrictions imposed by the Israeli government on air travel.
In addition, "even if the Israelis allow the plane to land, it risks remaining in quarantine for as long as 14 days".
However, the Greek resource notes that the Greek government is closely monitoring the steps that Russia is taking in this regard, which "like us sends planes to deliver the Holy Fire to their homeland".
In particular, it is reported that Russia agreed with the Israeli authorities that the Holy Fire will be delivered aboard the aircraft by one of the representatives of the Jerusalem Patriarchate, while none of those who meet the shrine will leave the airliner. “The same thing can be done with the aircraft of the Greek Prime Minister,” they say in the publication, “although no decision has yet been made”.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Vadim Novinsky spoke about how, under conditions of coronavirus quarantine, the Holy Fire can be brought to Ukraine from Jerusalem.
