On March 30, 2020, with the blessing of Metropolitan Agafangel (Savvin) of Odessa and Izmail, the brotherhood of St. Elijah’s Monastery began making antiseptic, which in the days of the fight against the coronavirus will be distributed to those in need for free, reports the website of the Odessa Eparchy.
Hegumen of the monastery, Archbishop Viktor (Bykov) of Artsyzsk headed the process of the antiseptic production.
He said that the monastery brotherhood plans to produce about 5,000 antiseptics in the first days of work.
"Today the whole world is fighting this terrible epidemic (COVID-19 – Ed.), which has already took away hundreds of human lives. First and foremost, the epidemic should unite us all in the fight against it. Of course, we must pray very hard, ask God for help. And God will certainly hear and help us," said Vladyka Victor.
He urged people not to be indifferent to someone else's grief and to take part in the fight against the spread of coronavirus.
"We will win (COVID-19 - Ed.) only if we all unite, pray, help those who suffer and try to take part as much as possible (in the fight against the spread of the epidemic - Ed.),” said Archbishop Victor. “Everyone also has sick old neighbours who require your help to buy the food. Everybody has the opportunity to sew 10 masks at home, and that, too, may save someone's life.”
Earlier, the Odessa Eparchy worked out a plan for organizing service in the emergency situation.
