On December 25, the feast day of St. Spiridon of Trimiphunt, right during the service an unknown man attacked the rector of the Savour Transfiguration Church in Chernomorsk with a knife.

Archpriest Mykola Pozdniakov said that when the clergy carried out the Holy Chalice for communion, a man ran up to the pulpit and swung a knife at him. Only thanks to the quick and fearless reaction of the parishioners, the attacker was neutralised.

Police did not arrive on the scene until half an hour later and the attacker was apprehended, but the next day he was walking around the city, entering the temple again. Law enforcers explained that they released him as he had done nothing. However, a video recorder recorded the intruder waving a knife.

Father Mykola hopes that law enforcers will still give a fair assessment of the incident.

As reported, on 2 January 2023, an unknown man injured a priest with a dangerous razor in the Protection Church in Vinnytsia.
