Chairman of the Synodal Information and Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Clement (Vecheria), said in a commentary to the TG channel “Strana” that he was surprised by the words of the people in power that they can decide the fate of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

"I am surprised how people in power boldly claim that they will decide the fate of the Lavra. After all, no man on earth knows about his personal destiny even what will happen to us tomorrow. Many elders foretold about the Lavra that before the end of the world and the Apocalypse, the desecration of its shrines will take place. Faithful people are well aware of these predictions of holy men," said Metropolitan Clement.

The UOC hierarch commented on a statement by the head of the Rada's Committee on Humanitarian Policy, Nikita Poturaev, that the UOC might take over the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra entirely.

As reported, earlier Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko said that in early February the Interdepartmental Commission will make a decision on the Lower Lavra.
