On April 19, 2020, as part of the telethon "Easter. We are the people!", the “112 Ukraine” TV channel showed the Russian Orthodox cartoon “The Unusual Journey of Seraphima”, now the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting can conduct an unscheduled inspection, reports “Hromadske”.

Deputy Chairman of the National Council Olga Gerasimyuk said that the meeting of the Council will be held on April 23, by this time a draft decision will have been prepared.

The “112 Ukraine” TV channel published a statement on its website regarding unjustified criticism of the cartoon, in which it recalled that “The Unusual Journey of Seraphima” is well known to the Ukrainian audience.

“Our Easter broadcast is far from the first show of this cartoon in Ukraine. In particular, “The Unusual Journey of Seraphima” received the Grand Prix of the XIII International Festival of Orthodox Films “Pokrov”, which was held in October 2015 in Kyiv,” the channel’s staff noted.

The cartoon that alarmed the National Council is a story about the life of a daughter of a clergyman, who was repressed in 1937, and the temple was destroyed. The child was sent to an orphanage, but she did not give up faith in God, even under pressure from teachers.

“According to the editorial staff of the TV channel, ‘The Unusual Journey of Seraphima’ is one of the few truly family cartoons on a religious theme, it is equally interesting to watch for both adults and children,” 112 Ukraine management emphasized and said that the cartoon was aired for free, and the rights to broadcast were transferred to them by the Seraphim Sarovsky Charity Foundation.

The TV channel suggested watching a few fragments of the cartoon to those who criticized this cartoon without knowing its content.

Earlier it became known that a journalist of the “1 + 1” TV channel offered money for kissing icons in the Kyiv Lavra.
