OCU, RCC and UGCC plant a “unity maple” in the Catholic seminary’s yard

On May 15, 2020, in the village of Briukhovichi, on the territory of the Higher Theological Seminary of the Lviv Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine, representatives of the OCU, RCC and UGCC planted a maple tree, which should become a symbol of unity. This was reported on the website of the Lviv Archdiocese of the RCC.

"Metropolitan" of the OCU Makary Maletich, Bishop-Emirite of the RCC Maryan (Buchek), Archbishop of the UGCC Igor (Vozniak) and other participants of the event emphasized the importance of uniting all the churches of the Lviv Region to confront the global coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier, the head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, explained that the unity of his religious organization with the Orthodox is possible on the basis of recognition of the primacy of the pope.

Later, a professor of church law at the Faculty of Law of the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki, Kyriakos Kyriazopoulos stated that the Patriarchate of Constantinople created the OCU to unite with Catholics.
