The former metropolitan of the UOC and at present the “hierarch” of the OCU, Simeon (Shostatsky), is seriously ill and is undergoing treatment at the First City Hospital of Vinnytsia.
At the beginning of June, the ex-metropolitan started to feel unwell and turned to the Vinnitsa city hospital for war veterans, but his condition worsened there and Shostatsky was transferred to the First City Hospital of Vinnytsia.
As the medical director of the hospital, Larisa Chernaya, told the UOJ, the condition of the ex-metropolitan is assessed by the attending physicians as “moderate”. He was not placed in the infectious ward but in a “separate ward with improved living conditions".
Recall that Simeon (Shostatsky) on May 4, 1996 was ordained bishop of Volodymyr-Volynsky and Kovel, in 2002 he was elevated to the rank of archbishop. On June 10, 2007, by the decision of the Holy Synod of the UOC, he was relieved of chancellor’s duties of the Volodymyr-Volynsky Eparchy and appointed archbishop of Vinnytsia and Mohyliv-Podilsky.
On July 9, 2011, Archbishop Simeon was elevated to the rank of metropolitan. On January 5, 2013, in connection with the separation from the Vinnytsia Eparchy of the Mohyliv-Podilsky Eparchy, the title was changed to Vinnytsia and Bar.
On December 15, 2018, the metropolitan fell into schism by joining the OCU. On December 17, 2018, the Holy Synod of the UOC banned Metropolitan Simeon (Shostatsky) from ministry.
