On the night of April 14, 2023, a 31-year-old man set fire to the doors of the UGCC Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin in Lviv. This was reported in the press service of the police of the Lviv region.
The department noted that the man faces imprisonment of up to 10 years.
“The crime is daring and not typical for the Lviv region, and it was also committed on the eve of Easter. Our operatives worked quickly, and CCTV cameras helped a lot in establishing the location of the attacker,” said Oleksandr Shlyakhovsky, head of the Lviv region police.
At the same time, the head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, Maxym Kozytsky, wrote on Facebook that only a “fierce enemy of the Ukrainian people” could set fire to the UGCC church.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that vandals set fire to the Volodymyr Church of the UOC in Lviv.
The UOJ also wrote that the mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, said that the fire in the Volodymyr Church of the UOC is “not a big deal” for the city.
