The head of the Communication Department of the Kropyvnytskyi City Council, Oksana Horbenko, at a meeting of the commission held on April 27, 2023, noted that the City Council has no authority to ban the UOC, such actions do not belong to the powers of local government, reports the press service of the Kropyvnytskyi City Council.
The official took as a basis the explanations regarding the ban on the UOC in the communities by the head of the State Ethnopolitics Viktor Yelenskyi.
"The legislation provides for two ways to terminate the activities of a religious community: through a court order or by the decision of the community itself following a general meeting," Horbenko said.
Horbenko added that the Kropyvnytskyi City Council will support the legislative initiative to ban the UOC in Ukraine. The commission instructed to draft a sessional resolution with an appeal to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine regarding the adoption of these legislative initiatives.
As earlier reported, authorities in Letychev have taken away land under churches from the UOC.
