On August 11, 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the registration in Russia of the world's first vaccine against the coronavirus infection, reports TASS.
“As far as I know, this morning, for the first time in the world, a vaccine against a new coronavirus infection has been registered,” the Russian leader said during a meeting with government members. - <...> I know that it works quite effectively, forms a stable immunity and, I repeat, has passed all the necessary tests."
The President of the Russian Federation noted that the mass production of the vaccine, developed by the N.F. Gamaleya Scientific Research Centre for Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, should start in the near future so that everyone can get such a vaccination. At the same time, he stressed that vaccination would be exclusively voluntary and that one of his daughters had already been vaccinated against COVID-19.
“The main thing, of course, is that in the future we can ensure the unconditional safety of this vaccine and its effectiveness. I hope that it will be so,” he added and congratulated everyone who worked on the creation of this medicine.
According to the “Komsomolskaya Pravda”, the world's first coronavirus vaccine is officially registered under the name Sputnik V. The introduction of the vaccine into civilian circulation is scheduled for January 1; vaccination of medical workers should begin at the end of August-September.
Earlier, the Chief Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Viktor Liashko said that Ukraine is preparing for the mass vaccination of the population against COVID-19.
