On August 16, 2020, Pope Francis called for dialogue, renunciation of violence and respect for law in Belarus, RIA Novosti reports.
“My thoughts turn to dear Belarus. I follow the post-election situation in this country with attention and call for dialogue, non-violence and respect for justice and law. I entrust all Belarusians to the holy intercession of Madonna, Queen of Peace,” the pontiff said, addressing the believers and pilgrims from the window of the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican.
As noted, several people with white-red-white flags, used by the Belarusian opposition, were present at St. Peter's Square in the Vatican.
As the UOJ reported, earlier the Synod of the Belarusian Orthodox Church published an address to the people of the Republic of Belarus to end the popular confrontation.
