In the village of Berezhnytsia, Rivne region, the UOC clergy held a funeral service for Lt. Oleksandr Prokopchuk, who died in the war and who was the son of the rector of the Berezhnytsia Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God, Archpriest Mykola, reports the press service of the Sarny Eparchy of the UOC.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Oleksandr has stood up to defend Ukraine: he took part in military operations as a military doctor in the 128th separate Zakarpattia mountain assault brigade. He died back in February while evacuating the wounded near Bakhmut, and only now there is an opportunity to deliver a coffin with his body for burial.
The funeral service at the Church of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin was led by the vicar of the Holy Virgin Protection Monastery in Velyki Tseptsevichi village Archimandrite Anthony (Griban), he was concelebrated by more than 30 priests of the eparchy.
Archimandrite Anthony conveyed the words of Anatoly, Metropolitan of Polissye and Sarny, head of the eparchy: "We bow our heads to the killed soldier Oleksandr, who saved the lives of others and died for the freedom of his native land. We express our sincere condolences to his parents, his wife, relatives and all those who knew, loved and respected him.”
The soldier was buried behind the altar of the church.
On April 24, Vasyl Fechko, the son of a UOC priest, was buried in the village of Volosianka, Uzhhorod district, Transcarpathia.
