The head of the Roman Catholic Church of Belarus, Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz, was deprived of his Belarusian passport, which was declared invalid, which is why he could not enter the republic on August 31, 2020. This was reported on Monday, September 14, on the official website of the RCC in Belarus.
The head of the Belarusian Catholics learned about the deprivation of his passport from the reply of the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus, where he applied after the incident at the border.
“Let us notify you that you were prohibited from crossing the state border due to the decision taken by the internal bodies to invalidate your passport of a citizen of the Republic of Belarus. You have the right to apply to the Ministry of Internal Affairs on the issue of the decision to invalidate your passport,” says the letter signed by the Chairman of the State Border Committee A. Lappo.
As explained on the website of the RCC in Belarus, Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz appealed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to clarify the situation and "hopes for the possibility of an early return to the native land."
As a reminder, Belarus has confirmed the invitation for the Head of the RCC Pope Francis to visit the country.
