Ukraine has received the official status as a participant in the Biarritz Partnership, according to the website of the President of Ukraine.
The Partnership was founded by G7 leaders at a summit in Biarritz, France on August 25, 2019. The participants in the initiative state that its goal is to increase accountability and pool the efforts of the international community to achieve gender equality.
In May 2020, the Cabinet of Ministers supported the accession of Ukraine to the Biarritz Partnership. Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba sent a corresponding letter from the government to the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of France with a statement on Ukraine's participation in the project on an ongoing basis.
The Biarritz Partnership commits all participants to:
- ensure gender parity in national, ministerial and representative delegations;
- provide comprehensive education about sexuality and healthy relationships in and out of school;
- ensure access to modern contraception and safe abortion services;
- eliminate harmful gender stereotypes and social norms, including ideas of masculinity, which are harmful to all genders;
- ensure the principle of consent, recognizing that sex without consent is rape;
- require the production of gender statistics;
- form gender-mainstreaming budgeting.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that according to the head of the European Commission, there is no place for LGBT-free zones in the EU.
