Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine honoured the memory of the victims of the Babi Yar tragedy and also took part in the opening of the memorial to them, reports the UOC Information and Education Department.
The ceremony was led by President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky.
According to the official website of the President of Ukraine, on the occasion of the anniversary of the memory of the victims of the tragedy, the “Babi Yar” Holocaust Centre presented a sound installation.
Monoculars with photographs of German correspondent Johannes Helle were installed on the territory of the memorial dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Mass Executions in Kyiv. He made them after the mass shootings on September 29-30, 1941.
According to official data, during the Nazi occupation of Kyiv in 1941-1943, about 100 thousand civilians were shot in Babi Yar, most of whom were Jews.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Primate and hierarchs of the UOC took part in the celebration of the Independence Day.
