On the 30th anniversary of the granting of the Letter of independence and self-governance by Patriarch Alexy II to the UOC, the Church launched the project “History of the UOC: How It Happened”, where priests will speak how the Church was revived in Ukraine after years of oppression by the godless Soviet regime, reports the UOC Information and Education Department.
Interviews with representatives of the older generation of the clergy will be held by Archpriest Nikolai Danilevich, Deputy Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the UOC.
“The last 30 years in the history of our Ukrainian Orthodox Church have been quite intense: in some way tragic, in some way positive. There were many events. In addition to the official ones, which we all know about, I would like to hear the impressions of those people who witnessed these events,” Archpriest Nikolai said in his opening remarks.
Therefore, the UOC decided to do a series of interviews with the older generation of the Kyiv clergy, who remember those turbulent years when our Church was being revived.
We recall that to celebrate the 30th anniversary of granting the UOC the status of an independent and self-governing Church with the rights of broad autonomy, the UOC Synod called on church scholars to research the history of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church after 1990 and instructed the Kyiv Theological Academy to prepare a modern textbook on the history of Orthodoxy in the Ukrainian lands.
