On October 14, 2020, on the feast of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos, a solemn ceremony of opening the base of the emergency medical team of the Centre for Medicine and Catastrophes of the Odessa Region was held at the Holy Protection Skete of the Odessa Eparchy of the UOC in the village of Marinovka of the Belyaevka district, Odessa region, reports "Orthodox Odessa".
On this day, Metropolitan Agafangel of Odessa and Izmail consecrated the premises of the aid station, as well as an ambulance and a fire engine, which were purchased at his expense with the support of the “Pokrov and Mercy” Charitable Foundation.
An ambulance substation on the territory of the UOC skete in Marinovka was opened with the assistance of Natalia Odariy-Zakharyeva, Director of the Health Department of the Odessa Regional State Administration. The construction of the premises of the infirmary became possible thanks to the financial assistance of the Alexander Edelman charitable foundation and patrons.
“The medical post is equipped with all the equipment necessary for work, comfortable restrooms are set up. Employees of this substation will provide emergency medical care to residents of Marinovka and surrounding villages round the clock. The monastery, in turn, will provide the brigade on duty with three meals a day,” the eparchy’s press service said in a statement.
At the solemn ceremony of opening the new first-aid station, Metropolitan Agafangel thanked the regional authorities and philanthropists for their assistance and help. In their turn, the local residents sincerely thanked Vladyka for such a priceless gift.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that due to the remoteness and bad roads, medical teams could not quickly arrive in Marinovka and nearby settlements. Now, with the opening of an ambulance substation at the Holy Protection Skete, the local residents will be able to receive qualified emergency medical care.
In addition, the Odessa diocese of the UOC continues a daily social action to provide meals to employees of nine emergency medical aid substations in Odessa.
