Lawyer Vasyl Samoliuk said that the decision of the Nizhyn City Council has no legal force, as only the court can ban the activities of a religious organisation, reports suspilne.media.
"Any decisions of the local government regarding the prohibition of any religious organisation, including the UOC, are currently illegal. Regarding the seizure of land – here we need to consider each specific situation, on the basis of what agreements and decisions this land was transferred. If the land was registered to the respective religious communities, it is also completely unpromising. Regarding agreements on the use of specific property, it is also necessary to refer to a specific agreement. But, as a rule, such contracts are not unilaterally cancelled if there are no grounds for this as defined by law," says Vasyl Samoliuk.
As previously reported, the Nizhyn City Council "banned" the UOC.
