On August 13, 2023, the Holy Synod of the Albanian Church called on the Patriarchate of Constantinople to make an assessment of the insults of the Cretan Church cleric, Archimandrite Roman (Anastasiadis).

The press service said in a statement that “the archimandrite of the Cretan Church, who is registered on social networks as Ilias Anastasiadis, posted on his personal website gross insults against His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana and All Albania even on major holidays.”

The Albanian Church said that the reason for the insults was the letter of the Archbishop to the persecuted Ukrainian Metropolitan Jonathan of Tulchyn and Bratslav.

The Holy Synod of the Orthodox Autocephalous Church of Albania hopes that “the highest ecclesiastical authority, in whomever it may be represented, will undertake effective intervention to stop this unworthy behavior.”

According to the Albanian Church, the "evil writings" of Archimandrite Roman "are a gross insult not only to the two Local Orthodox Churches, but also to the prestige of Orthodoxy in the Christian world."

The Cretan Orthodox Church (officially the Church of Crete, Greek Εκκλησία της Κρήτης) is a semi-autonomous Orthodox Church within the Patriarchate of Constantinople.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that a pro-fanariot website posted an offensive article about the head of the Church of Albania.
