On November 25, 2020, Metropolitan Nikiforos of Kykkos and Tylliria of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus stated that the decision taken by the Holy Synod to support the position of Archbishop Chrysostomos is not binding, reports "Romfea".

Commenting on the decision of the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus, Metropolitan Nikiforos said that the compromise solution that he proposed did not pass, and the decision adopted by the Synod "is not binding" since it is "a matter of faith".

He emphasized that during the Synod, "differences were recorded", with the final result 10 to 7.  Metropolitan Nikiforos said, “The proposal of Agios Paphos has passed. We opposed his proposal, we did not agree. The proposal concerned the recognition of the Epiphany as the leader of Kiev and all of Ukraine".

Vladyka noted that the Synodal decision “does not bind us, we have examples in Orthodoxy where only one disagreed and was acquitted afterwards: Mark of Ephesus. He disagreed and did not sign the minutes of the Summit, although they were all signed. History justified him and in 1484 the Synod of Ferrara - Florence was annulled and Marcos Eugenikos emerged as the Saint of our Church".

As reported earlier, the Synod of the Church of Cyprus, by a majority of votes, supported the position of the Primate on the OCU.
