Archpriest Nikolai Danilevich, Deputy Head of the Department for External Church Relations of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, commented on the meeting of the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus held on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, at which a majority of votes decided to support the position of Archbishop Chrysostomos on the OCU.

“The situation with the decision of the Synod in Cyprus, where 7 metropolitans (almost half of the hierarchy) opposed the recognition of Epiphany, once again confirms that this is not a conflict between Greeks and Russians, or more broadly Slavs, as some argue, but a conflict between defenders of the purity of Orthodoxy, canons , and those who sacrifice these principles to non-church interests, regardless of nationality. And in the Greek environment, as we can see, there are defenders of canons and traditional ecclesiology,” the UOC spokesperson wrote on his Telegram channel following the meeting of the Synod of the Church of Cyprus.

As reported, the hierarch of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus, Metropolitan Isaiah of Tamassos, stated the beginning of the overthrow of the synodal regime of the Church and emphasized that His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry is the only canonical Primate in Ukraine.
