Cypriote Professor of Theology: Archbishop Chrysostomos must resign

Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus should realize the damage he caused to the Church and leave the post of primate, said the head of the Theological Faculty of the University of Nicosia, Christos Oikonomou, reports Vima Orthodoxias.

Professor Oikonomou noted that Archbishop Chrysostomos " has lost control of thought and sense of things. This is evidenced by the latest statements of the hierarch.

The head of the Cypriot Church must " as soon as possible realize that the damage he did to the Church is very great and to submit his resignation", the Cypriot theologian believes.

According to Oikonomou, commemorating Epiphany Dumenko, Archbishop Chrysostomos " underestimated the Synod and proceeded authoritarian and egocentric and already created the schism within the Church".

“He ignored the unanimous decisions of the Synod and afterwards he came and asked, from persons, who, in fact, depend (financially) on him " to support his actions, the professor said. He also pointed out that "the Synod was structured in such a way that (its Members) are dependent and blackmailed and cannot make decisions freely".
The Cypriot theologian noted that Archbishop Chrysostomos has to realize his failure and "stop behaving like a Pope, with this dictatorial style".

As reported, Athanasios, Metropolitan of Limassol of the Cypriot Orthodox Church, said that the latest statements of Archbishop Chrysostomos are "lies and slander".
