Member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and Defense, head of the Subcommittee on State Security and Defense, MP Irina Vereshchuk believes that granting of the Tomos to the OCU is exclusively a political action, initiated by Petro Poroshenko in the run-up to the election. Archpriest Nikolai Danilevich, spokesman of the UOC, reminded of these words said by Irina Vereshchuk in his telegram channel.

According to Vereshchuk, if we go back to history, we need to remember that "the granting of canonicity and Tomos" to Ukraine took place back in October '90, "when Ukrainian independence was only burgeoning."

"We have the Tomos from Patriarch Alexy. Why only now and only in this way did we start talking about it? Why it was only in April that Petro Poroshenko addressed the Ecumenical Patriarch and it is still unclear why it became such a conflictogen, why it all turned into such a conflict. I think it's pure politics," said Vereshchuk.

Therefore, the politician says, "if we're talking about today's Tomos and what they're making of it now – in radio and TV broadcasts and so on – it really appears as pure politics. And if we're talking about the canonical or non-canonical communion with the Russian Patriarchate – we have it."

"Irina Vereshchuk says all the right words. It's amazing and pleasant," Archpriest Nikolai Danilevich commented on the words of the MP.

Earlier the UOJ wrote that the UOC denied information about the limitation of its rights by the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church.
