On 8 March 2024, the head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, together with his bishops, visited the head of the Archdiocese of the Patriarchate of Constantinople in the United States, Elpidophoros, in New York, reports the UGCC website.

Archbishop Elpidophoros said the visit "marks positive and significant progress in the dialogue between our Churches and provides a solid foundation for our common path to unity."

According to him, peace in the war between Ukraine and Russia is impossible "until there is justice".

In turn, the UGCC bishops spoke about their work with Ukrainian refugees. In particular, Bohdan Dziurakh said that, in his opinion, most Ukrainians who came to Germany will stay here forever. A Uniate bishop working in Poland said that there are already 200 Greek Catholic communities in that country, most of which emerged after Russia invaded Ukraine.

"Now we are doing everything to ensure that the Ukrainians remaining in Poland do not lose their church and national identity," said the bishop of Wrocław-Koszalin.

As reported, the Pope urged Ukraine to raise the white flag.
